Stay Alert: Protect Yourself from Phishing Email

Modified on Wed, 1 May at 12:24 PM

To protect against phishing emails:

  1. 1. Verify Sender

Check the sender's email address for legitimacy (e.g., xyz@amazon(dot)com). Legitimate companies use official domains, not generic or suspicious addresses.

  1. 2. Watch Bcc Usage

Be cautious if your email is in the Bcc (blind carbon copy) field. Legitimate companies usually email directly to recipients.

  1. 3. Inspect Links

Hover over links in emails to ensure they lead to the expected websites. Beware of unexpected redirects or shortened URLs.

  1. 4. Check Grammar

Look for spelling and grammar errors that are uncommon in legitimate emails. Phishing emails often contain noticeable mistakes.

  1. 5. Assess Urgency

Be wary of emails that create a sense of urgency or prompt emotional responses. Phishing emails often use urgent language to pressure recipients into taking immediate action.

Following these steps can reduce the risk of phishing attacks and safeguard your personal information and sensitive data.

Always exercise caution when opening emails, especially those requesting personal information or financial transactions.
